As the
Flower Mound White baseball team prepared for its final game last
Saturday at Bakersfield Park, the memory of a departed teammate was
evident in more ways than one.
Hunter Berry died in a swimming pool accident in Mexico in mid-July,
and players wore stickers with the No. 31 –
Hunter’s number – on their helmets. A cloth banner
adorned the back of the dugout with the words, “Hunter Berry,
Our Angel in the Outfield.”
In smaller writing, mostly that of children, were other messages, such
as “We love you, Hunter,”
”I’ll miss you,” “You rock,
Hunter,” and “Great player, Greater
Friend.”
Volleyball Teams Ready for Season
Sports Department
The story of last year’s Flower Mound volleyball team will not be
the story of this year’s squad. The 2006 Lady Jags featured eight
sophomores at the varsity level. A season later, with nine returning
lettermen, Flower Mound is no longer an inexperienced bunch.
Marcus’ volleyball team ended a run of two consecutive seasons without a playoff berth and finally broke through in 2006.
Coach Cristie Liles watched her team advance to the Class 5A Region I area playoffs.
